How to Prepare For A
Functional Medicine Detox
First of all, congratulations on committing to your health and diving into this Functional Medicine Detox!! It will be life-changing for you! You’ve decided to rid your body of years of built-up toxins, and that’s going to change the game for you with your menopause experience!
The Dr. Cabral Detox is one of the most pivotal things that changed my life, and I talk about it a lot on social, in my emails, and blogs because I KNOW how powerful it will be for you as well! I detox regularly (seasonally) because it makes me feel so good and allows me to remain in top health!
Today I want to share a few tips about how you can prepare for your detox! If you haven’t ordered your detoxing yet, you can order your 7, 14, or 21-day detox here.

The next step will be to prepare your body, mind, family, and kitchen to be as successful as possible and to enjoy your detox experience.

Prepare Your Body
• Make sure your bowels are moving.
Your bowels must move for toxins to leave your body. 1-3 bowel movements per day are ideal. If you struggle in this area, try drinking a warm lemon + sea salt water every morning. I also like to add in Alkalizing Vitamin C. Check out this video here where I show you how to make my Natural Gatorade. This stimulates movement in the digestive tract. Abdominal massage, magnesium (biglycinate, citrate, dimagnesium malate, magnesium lysinate glycinate chelated), dry brushing, eating more fiber, and performing coffee enemas can also keep things moving!
• Support your liver bile ducts.
Most people NEVER think of, or have even heard of their liver bile ducts…but they are very important for gut and liver health, as well as detoxing. To support and open your liver bile ducts, drink warm lemon water with sea salt (same as above), dandelion tea, or milk thistle tea. Coffee enemas also dilate the ducts of the liver to maximize detoxification. Another supplement that can be helpful in supporting you liver and gut health is TUCDA. Practitioner code: nyhz1bcx
• Weaning your caffeine!
Sorry to all of the coffee lovers here! It will be very helpful to start decreasing caffeine intake 1-2 weeks before starting the detox. This is because many can experience caffeine withdrawal symptoms if they stop abruptly…they think the headaches are due to the detox, but it’s actually from cutting the coffee. Begin to wean from caffeine by adding decaf coffee to your morning Joe. Use a clean product that uses Swiss Water Processing instead of harmful chemicals in order to bring you decaf coffee.
• Take a Binder (supplement) during the detox.
This isn’t required but can be helpful since binders bind up toxins and safely remove them from the body. This can decrease any detox symptoms you may experience. I’ve linked up my favorite that I take daily, but increase during the detox. Again, not required, but it will improve the amount of toxins you get out of the body and lessen any potential detox symptoms.
• Move your lymph.
Don’t forget about your lymph! The lymphatic system is a network of vessels similar to the circulatory system, but the lymphatic system does not have a pump (like the heart). Moving the lymph requires a little extra effort so toxins can be excreted. Dry brushing, rebounding, and exercise (walking) are all great ways to show love to your lymphatic system.
• Get sweaty!
Skin is a HUGE drainage pathway, and sweating can release numerous toxins. Exercise, enjoy warm baths, and even better if you have a sauna! It can be used throughout the detox. An infrared sauna is optimal, but if you only have access to a standard sauna, jump in that! It’s a powerful way to get toxins out of the body.

Prepare Your Mind
• Your mindset will determine how successful you will be during this time. Tell yourself that you can do this, and you will!
• Find your WHY for completing this detox. Why do you want to feel better? What do you want your future to look like? Write it down, make a list and post it where you can see it every day.
• Find a mantra or quote that resonates with you and helps you stay motivated. One of my favorites is “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.”
Prepare Your Family
• Make sure your family understands your WHY. Support from those closest to you helps tremendously.
• Invite them to join you! Detoxing with family members makes things much easier because you can all eat the same things! Also, let them know you focus on consuming home-cooked meals during the detox, so you won’t be able to eat out with them.
• Write your fasting days on the calendar and let your family know that you might experience mood swings during this time as your body resets. Ask them for grace, and don’t feel guilty for focusing on your health.
Prepare Your Kitchen
•Clear out your pantry and fridge. If you have foods that aren’t approved during the detox, finish them before your detox or move them out of sight. You will be more successful by removing the temptation of your favorite snack foods and treats. See the approved food list for the detox here (this is also included in the detox kit).
• Meal prep with approved detox recipes if you need some inspiration. Make sure to follow the approved food item list when cooking.
These extra steps before your detox will make this an easier and more enjoyable experience.
